Google’s New Feature Allows Users to Change Their Gmail Addresses
Google Allows Users to Change Gmail Addresses
If you find yourself stuck with an embarrassing Gmail address from your high school days, such as LazySexyCool3030, there may be a solution on the horizon. Google, according to a support page in Hindi, is now offering some users the option to change their email address.
If your Google Account email address ends with gmail.com, you have the ability to switch it to one that ends with @gmail.com.
However, this change seems to be more like adding a second address to your account rather than completely replacing your original email. Emails sent to your old address will still be delivered to your inbox, and you can continue to use it to sign in to any accounts associated with it. Your old address will essentially be set as an alias for the new one, ensuring that all messages, photos, and files linked to the old address are preserved.
There are certain limitations to this feature. Users can only change their email address once a year and are only allowed to create a total of three new addresses. After creating three new addresses, users will no longer be able to make further changes. However, reverting back to the old email address is always an option. It is recommended to create a full backup of your computer before making any changes, especially if using ChromeOS, as there may be issues with settings and files carrying over.
This update will be particularly beneficial for individuals who created their Gmail addresses at a young age without considering future implications, such as being stuck with a username related to a childhood interest like Naruto. Additionally, those who have changed their names will also appreciate this new feature.
Although the updated support page is not yet available in English and the option to change Gmail addresses is not accessible to all users, it is gradually rolling out to all users, as reported by 9to5Google. Google has been contacted for confirmation on this matter.
