Highguard update 1.0.4 adds FoV sliders and fixes some crash issues

Highguard, the free to play hero shooter developed by Wildlight Entertainment, has recently received patch 1.0.4, introducing several enhancements and bug fixes. Amongst the key updates is the addition of field of view sliders for console players, addressing some critical issues that were affecting gameplay experience. Since its launch earlier this week, Highguard has garnered a mixed response from the gaming community. Below, you can find the detailed patch notes for Highguard update 1.0.4.

Highguard 1.0.4 Update Patch Notes

Please note: In our commitment to swiftly deliver these changes to players, certain menu options have not yet been localized in languages other than English. Proper localization of settings will be implemented in a future patch.

  • Players can now set Crouch to Hold or Toggle across all platforms.
  • Added the option to set Aim Down Sights to Hold or Toggle for PC players (currently exclusive to PC).

For PC players, toggling into ADS and then tapping Sprint will swap your scope. However, this feature may cause disorientation for controller users. PC players using Toggle ADS are advised to rebind the scope swap function. Work is ongoing to introduce this feature for console players who are unable to rebind buttons at this time.

  • Console users now have the ability to adjust FoV up to 110 degrees.
  • Optimized low scalability settings for shadows and reflections, focusing on enhancing performance at the expense of some image quality.
  • The low shadow setting now includes the disabling of volumetric fog.
  • Introduced a new “View Distance Quality” setting to manage skeletal mesh LODs, providing users with additional control over GPU and CPU usage.

Players now have the flexibility to toggle various features on or off independently of other quality settings:

  • Anisotropic Materials
  • Chromatic Aberration
  • Bloom

Motion Blur and Depth of Field settings require further testing before safe disabling. Expect these options to be available soon.

  • DLSS users can now choose a DLSS preset, with additional presets and improved descriptions slated for the next patch.More presets and better descriptions are coming in the next patch.
  • Players can opt to disable Global Illumination entirely by selecting the “Off” option.
  • Fixed an engine bug that was limiting laptop users to 60 FPS regardless of frame rate settings.

Crash and Bug Fixes

This update addresses various crashes that could occur in specific scenarios:

  • Fix for crashes when leaving a match on PS5 with unexpected input states.
  • Improved loading into matches on devices with slower storage, reducing the likelihood of crashes.

Furthermore, multiple bugs related to online user presence and matchmaking have been resolved:

  • Friends now display online status accurately after accepting requests, and Xbox presence updates function correctly. Significant crash fixes have led to a 90% reduction in crashes, enhancing overall game stability.
  • Friend status has been rectified, ensuring players’ online status is accurately reflected, and Xbox presence updates reliably. The most critical crash issues have been resolved, resulting in a 90% decrease in crashes.

Although a comprehensive review of Highguard is pending, early impressions from Dom suggest a promising future for the game. Dom mentioned, “Highguard’s initial foray into the PvP realm exudes confidence and originality, despite some negative feedback online. The unique blend of elements from popular titles like Apex Legends, Rainbow Six, and He-Man creates an enjoyable gaming experience, with vast potential for further growth. It will be interesting to see how the game evolves and whether it attracts the audience needed for success.”
