Improved Accessibility: ‘Select’ Button Prominently Featured in iOS 26 Beta 5 Mail App
iOS 26 Beta 5 Reverts Annoying Mail App Change
Users of the iOS 26 beta have been relieved as Apple reverts a small but irritating change in the Mail app. The change, introduced in beta 1 through 4, required an extra tap before entering select mode to choose multiple emails to mark as read or archive. However, with the release of iOS 26 beta 5, this issue has been resolved, bringing back the “Select” button to its original position at the top of the Mail app’s list view.

While the “…” button still exists to reveal controls related to the Mail app’s appearance, the repositioning of the “Select” button addresses the feedback from users who felt that essential controls were being hidden behind menus. This change, along with other user-centric improvements like the ability to toggle swipe directions in the Camera app, makes iOS 26 beta 5 a favorable update for those who have been providing feedback since June.
