British technology company Nothing has introduced Nothing OS 4.0, a new smartphone user interface based on Android 16, bringing along exciting new features.
Nothing initially unveiled NOS 4.0 alongside the introduction of the Nothing Phone (3) in early July, with a planned release in “early autumn.” The rollout finally began on November 21, with the Phone (3) being the first to receive the update.
It is currently uncertain when other Nothing phone models will receive the update, although all Nothing phones except the Phone (1) from 2022 are compatible.
New Features of Nothing OS 4.0
Prior to the rollout, Nothing has shared details of the enhancements coming to Nothing phones.
With a promise of a more seamless and intuitive design, users can anticipate a cleaner Quick Settings menu, a more responsive lock screen and always-on display, and a variety of redesigned lock screen clocks.
The introduction of Extra Dark Mode takes Nothing’s signature dark aesthetic a step further. This enhanced contrast level is designed to conserve more power, reduce eye strain, and enhance the overall visual appeal.

Additionally, an AI Usage Dashboard will provide real-time updates on the AI processes running in the background. This feature sets Nothing apart from devices like the Google Pixel 10 Pro.
Another new addition is the Pop-up View, enabling users to use two floating apps simultaneously. Users can minimize an app by swiping up from the bottom edge and expand it by pulling down.
Nothing also promises enhancements to the camera experience with an upgraded Camera app and smarter Gallery, although the impact of these improvements remains to be seen.
An official post on X gives a glimpse of the upcoming features:
To check for the update on your device, navigate to Settings > System > System Updates to manually verify its availability. Prior updates may need to be installed before Nothing OS 4.0 becomes accessible.
