Microsoft
Introducing OneDrive’s New Windows App with AI Photo Agent Integration
Exciting Updates Coming to OneDrive on Windows
Microsoft is gearing up to launch a revamped OneDrive app for Windows in the upcoming year. This new app will offer users a host of new features, including a photo gallery, people view, AI-powered slideshows, and editing capabilities. These updates are part of a series of enhancements set to roll out on OneDrive in the coming months, such as the introduction of a new Photos Agent and AI-powered mobile editing.
The new OneDrive app for Windows represents a significant redesign compared to the current desktop version. Instead of a small flyout on the taskbar, users will have access to a full-fledged app that closely resembles the mobile version of OneDrive. This updated app will feature a new gallery view for all cloud photos and a dedicated people view that can detect faces in images and allow users to assign names to them.
Additionally, OneDrive on Windows will soon support local photos, enabling users to edit images and store them locally on a drive or upload them to Microsoft’s cloud storage service.
Enhanced Copilot Integration and AI Mobile Editing
Microsoft is also deepening its Copilot integration within OneDrive, introducing a new Photos Agent feature for Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft 365 Premium subscribers. This Photos Agent acts as a chatbot for photos, allowing users to request specific collections or memories, which Copilot will then curate into albums.
Furthermore, OneDrive on iOS and Android will soon receive AI mobile editing capabilities, enabling users to transform photos into animated styles. The mobile app will also offer tools to enhance image quality, remove blur or duplicates, and a new moments tab that surfaces older photos and memories.
Streamlined Document Sharing and Collaboration
In addition to these exciting updates, Microsoft has introduced a major enhancement to document sharing on OneDrive. The new “hero link” feature simplifies the sharing process by allowing users to easily copy the URL of a OneDrive document, eliminating the need for special links. This feature mirrors the functionality of Google Docs and makes it more convenient for users to request access to files without encountering access denial messages.
