Google officially unveiled Android 16 on May 13, 2025, bringing significant changes to the Android operating system. The new ‘Material 3 Expressive’ design, revamped apps, and enhanced customization options are some of the key features that will transform the user experience on Android 16. With this update, Android 16 embraces a full Gen Z aesthetic.

The latest version of Android has already been rolled out to Pixel phones, with various other brands either in the process of pushing the update or conducting late-stage beta testing for their own devices. The timing of the update’s availability depends on factors such as the brand and the age of the device.

Here is an overview of what to expect from well-known brands in the UK and US markets based on the Android 16 Update Tracker, which tracks updates for popular phones. Not all companies are included in this list, as some like TCL, Asus, Nubia, HMD, Huawei, and Realme are excluded.

Google

Google’s Pixel devices are among the first to receive updates, and Android 16 was no exception. The software update was released on June 10, 2025, for Pixel phones. Despite the update, the Material 3 Expressive design change was rolled out separately after the announcement of Pixel 10 phones, with the rollout commencing on September 3, 2025.

Samsung

Samsung boasts a wide range of phones in the UK and US markets, with many eligible for the Android 16-based One UI 8 update. The rollout of One UI 7 began in April 2025, followed by the One UI 8 update on September 15, 2025. The update initially started with the Galaxy S25, with plans to update several other models before the end of 2025.

Honor

Honor made headlines by announcing six years of software support in January 2025, extending it to seven years for its Magic devices in March 2025. The company is known for its commitment to providing timely Android updates, with devices like the 400, 400 Pro, Magic 7 Pro, and Magic V3 set to receive Android 16 by the end of 2025.

OnePlus

OnePlus confirmed that the Android 16 update, known as OxygenOS 16, will begin rolling out on October 16. Several OnePlus models available in the UK and US are slated to receive the update in the coming months.

Xiaomi

Xiaomi offers a diverse lineup of devices in the UK and US markets and will update to Android 16 with its HyperOS 3 skin. The official list from Xiaomi indicates a "soft" release between December 2025 and March 2026 for select phones.

Motorola

Motorola has officially started the Android 16 rollout with models like the Edge 60 Pro, Edge 60 Fusion, and Edge 50 Pro. Users can check for the availability of the software update on Motorola’s support pages.

Nothing (including CMF)

Nothing’s smartphones continue to receive OS updates, with expectations for Nothing OS 4.0 based on Android 16. While an active beta program is ongoing, no phones have been updated to Android 16 yet.

Oppo

Oppo will be showcasing ColorOS 16, based on Android 16, on October 15. This will likely precede the Oppo Find X9 announcement on October 16, with more devices expected to receive the Android 16 update in the future.

Sony Xperia

Sony continues to release Xperia phones in the UK and US, with the Xperia 1 VII already receiving the Android 16 update ahead of other brands.

Asus

Asus offers a range of phones in its Zenfone and ROG Phone series, with an Android 16 beta currently running for select devices. Expectations are high for the update to reach Asus devices in the near future.
