Kaltura Acquires eSelf.ai for $27 Million

Kaltura, an AI video platform company based in New York, has announced its acquisition of eSelf.ai, an Israeli startup known for its conversational avatars. These AI-generated digital humans can interact with users in real-time. The deal, valued at around $27 million, solidifies Kaltura’s position in the market.

Founded in 2023 by CEO Alan Bekker and CTO Eylon Shoshan, eSelf brings expertise in speech-to-video generation and low-latency speech recognition. The company’s technology allows digital avatars to interact with users dynamically, responding to on-screen actions. Bekker and Shoshan, along with the entire eSelf team, will join Kaltura to integrate their technology seamlessly.

Kaltura, a Nasdaq-listed company, offers a range of cloud-based video solutions for various industries. Its platform caters to enterprise customers, including tech giants like Amazon, Oracle, and IBM. With over 800 clients, Kaltura is known for its innovative video applications and virtual classroom products.

The acquisition of eSelf.ai will enhance Kaltura’s offerings, enabling the integration of virtual agent technology into its video solutions. This move aims to create interactive agents capable of real-time conversations and screen interpretation.

CEO Ron Yekutiel highlighted the strategic importance of the acquisition, emphasizing eSelf’s expertise in synchronous conversation technology. The cultural and geographical alignment between the two companies was also a key factor in the decision.

The Evolution of Video Technology

In recent years, video technology has evolved rapidly, driven by AI capabilities. Kaltura’s focus has shifted from traditional video streaming to personalized, context-aware content delivery. With eSelf’s technology, Kaltura aims to add human-like features to its AI agents, enhancing the user experience.

Unlike other avatar companies, Kaltura’s approach includes a comprehensive workflow that covers avatar creation, intelligence integration, and enterprise connectivity. The company’s goal is to deliver measurable business outcomes and drive ROI through video-based experiences.

Kaltura plans to introduce standalone agents for various sectors, such as sales, marketing, customer support, and training. Target industries include education, media, e-commerce, healthcare, and more.

Addressing recent speculation about Kaltura’s valuation and potential mergers, Yekutiel clarified that while the company explores various opportunities, no concrete transactions have been pursued. The acquisition of eSelf.ai marks Kaltura’s fourth strategic move, following previous acquisitions in the cloud TV and video conferencing space.

With a revenue of around $180 million and a workforce of 600 employees, Kaltura remains profitable and committed to its growth strategy. The integration of eSelf’s technology further strengthens Kaltura’s position as a leader in AI-driven video solutions.
