Microsoft’s LinkedIn Acquisition Paying Off: Revenue Hits $5 Billion Quarterly
Microsoft’s $26.2 billion acquisition of LinkedIn, once considered overpriced, now generates the same amount in revenue every 15 months, surpassing $5 billion in quarterly revenue for the first time in the company’s history.
LinkedIn’s recent growth is mainly attributed to its advertising business, LinkedIn Marketing Solutions, amid a challenging job market scenario.
CEO Satya Nadella highlighted the 30% year-over-year growth in paid video ads on LinkedIn, driven by the platform’s venture into short-form video content tailored for professional audiences.

LinkedIn’s member base saw double-digit growth, nearing 1.3 billion members as of October, with premium subscriptions crossing $2 billion in annual revenue for the first time.
Although Microsoft does not disclose individual unit profits, LinkedIn contributes to the Productivity and Business Processes segment, achieving a remarkable operating income of $20.6 billion on $34.1 billion in revenue.
Despite its success, LinkedIn faces a potential hurdle in the form of a €310 million fine from Ireland’s Data Protection Commission for GDPR violations, which could impact its advertising algorithms and growth trajectory.
Microsoft’s recent financial reports indicate a positive outlook, with cloud services exceeding $50 billion, showcasing the company’s evolving business landscape through strategic acquisitions like LinkedIn.
