LiveKit’s Voice AI Technology Soars to $1 Billion Valuation
LiveKit Raises $100 Million in Funding at $1 Billion Valuation
LiveKit, a leading developer specializing in infrastructure software for real-time AI voice and video applications, recently announced a significant milestone in its growth journey. The company has successfully secured $100 million in funding, valuing LiveKit at an impressive $1 billion.
This latest funding round, which took place ten months after LiveKit’s previous successful fundraise, was spearheaded by Index Ventures. The round also saw continued support from existing investors such as Altimeter Capital Management, Hanabi Capital, and Redpoint Ventures.
Powering Innovative AI Solutions
One of LiveKit’s standout achievements is its collaboration with OpenAI, where it powers the voice mode for ChatGPT. In addition to this partnership, LiveKit serves a diverse range of clients, including xAI, Salesforce, Tesla, 911 emergency service operators, and mental health providers.
A Story of Innovation and Growth
Founded in 2021 by Russ d’Sa and David Zhao, LiveKit initially started as an open-source software project aimed at facilitating real-time audio and video transmission in applications. The company’s inception coincided with the global shift to virtual communication platforms like Zoom during the pandemic.
While LiveKit began as a free tool for developers, its trajectory changed as the founders identified a growing demand for a managed cloud version. This pivot led LiveKit to cater to the needs of large enterprises seeking reliable voice AI solutions, ultimately fueling the company’s rapid expansion.
