Locked Lyrics: YouTube’s New Paywall for Song Words
YouTube Music Free Accounts Facing Limited Access to Lyrics
Reports indicate that users of free YouTube Music accounts are now experiencing restrictions on accessing lyrics. In a move initiated by Google, lyrics were initially tested as a premium feature in September. However, it seems that this feature is now being rolled out more widely. Free users may find that their ability to view lyrics is capped at five songs per month. We are currently seeking confirmation from Google regarding this limitation.
Upon reaching this limit, users will only have access to the first few lines of lyrics. Subsequent content will be obscured, and a prompt to “Unlock lyrics with Premium” will appear. A prominent banner alerting users about their remaining lyric views will be displayed upon opening the tab, complete with a countdown.
