Data Breach at Central Maine Healthcare Exposes Information of Over 145,000 Individuals

Last year, Central Maine Healthcare (CMH) experienced a significant data breach that resulted in the exposure of sensitive information belonging to more than 145,000 individuals.

The breach, which took place between March 19 and June 1, lasted for over two months before being discovered by CMH. The hackers managed to infiltrate the organization’s systems, impacting a substantial number of individuals.

CMH, a prominent integrated healthcare delivery system, serves a population of at least 400,000 people and operates several hospitals, including Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC), Bridgton Hospital, and Rumford Hospital.

Upon discovering the breach, CMH took immediate steps to notify affected individuals and continued to provide updates as the investigation progressed. By November 6, 2025, the total number of impacted individuals was determined to be 145,381.

The compromised data included personal information of CMH patients, as well as current and former employees. The breach exposed sensitive details such as full names, dates of birth, treatment information, dates of service, provider names, health insurance information, and Social Security Numbers (SSNs).

As a result of the breach, individuals who have utilized CMH services are at an increased risk of falling victim to phishing, impersonation, and fraud schemes.

CMH advised affected individuals to carefully review statements from healthcare providers and insurance plans for any discrepancies. They were encouraged to report any unauthorized services promptly.

In response to the incident, CMH established a dedicated patient support line to address inquiries, data abuse reports, and concerns. Additionally, the organization offered free credit monitoring services to affected individuals to mitigate the risk of financial fraud.
