Massive Discord Breach Exposes 70,000 Users’ Government IDs

Discord Addresses Security Incident
In response to recent claims circulating online regarding a security incident involving a third-party customer service provider, Discord would like to clarify the situation. Contrary to the misinformation being spread, the incident was not a breach of Discord itself, but rather a breach of a third-party service utilized for customer support.
It has come to light that inaccurate numbers are being shared in an attempt to extort payment from Discord. While the actual number of impacted accounts globally is significantly lower than claimed, approximately 70,000 users may have had their government-ID photos exposed. These photos were used by the vendor to verify age-related appeals.
Discord wants to assure its users that all affected individuals have been contacted, and the company is actively collaborating with law enforcement agencies, data protection authorities, and cybersecurity experts. The compromised vendor has been removed from Discord’s operations, and the affected systems have been secured.
The company reiterates its commitment to safeguarding personal data and emphasizes that those responsible for the illegal actions will not be rewarded. Discord takes the protection of user information seriously and acknowledges the concerns raised by this incident.
