Massive Recall: Honda and Acura SUVs Facing Issues with Instrument and Reverse Camera Displays

65,135 Honda and Acura SUVs Recalled for Blank Instrument and Reverse Camera Displays

Recent recall news reveals that approximately 19,573 Acura models and 45,562 Hondas have been recalled due to distinct software defects affecting the reverse camera display and instrumental panel. These issues may cause the panel to go blank while the vehicle is in operation. The recall encompasses a significant number of 2024 model-year vehicles, including the 2024 Honda Prologue and 2024 Acura ZDX.

According to documents submitted to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a software flaw leads to the instrument cluster and center infotainment display going blank during vehicle operation. This malfunction results in the absence of crucial information on the instrument cluster, such as the speedometer, warning indicators, tachometer, and indicator lights.

Furthermore, the center infotainment display fails to show rear-view camera images when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. The recall documentation suggests that these issues may occur intermittently and could potentially be resolved by restarting the vehicle.

The NHTSA documents identify the radio control module as the root cause, citing six different software defects that impact the instrument cluster and infotainment screen. Each defect manifests uniquely, impeding the radio control module from transmitting data effectively to the instrument cluster or infotainment display, leading to system restarts or crashes and resulting in a blank screen.

As of June 3, 2024, Honda became aware of the issue and initiated an investigation. By February 19, 2025, Honda had received 148 warranty claims with no reported injuries or fatalities linked to the defect.

Honda plans to notify affected owners via mail starting April 20, 2026. Owners will receive instructions on bringing their vehicles to authorized Honda or Acura dealerships for rectification. The fix involves updating the radio control module software with an enhanced module that addresses the issue. Concerned individuals can check if their vehicle is part of the recall on the NHTSA website.
