Rivian Recalls Over 19,000 R1 Vehicles Over Rear Suspension Safety Risk

Rivian Recalls Over 19,641 R1 Models Due to Rear Suspension Issue

Rivian, the renowned electric vehicle manufacturer, has recently announced a recall affecting a total of 19,641 of their R1 models. This recall comes after these vehicles were previously serviced for rear suspension issues.

According to documents submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the rear suspension on these models, specifically the toe link joint, may have been improperly serviced, potentially leading to the joint separating and increasing the risk of accidents.

The recall includes specific models of the R1 produced between 2022 and 2025, affecting approximately 7,031 R1 SUVs and 12,610 R1T pickup trucks. The NHTSA reports that all affected vehicles underwent rear suspension servicing between April 1, 2022, and March 10, 2025.

During the servicing period, Rivian performed a procedure involving the separation and reassembly of the rear suspension toe link joint, using an outdated service method. This outdated procedure caused the toe link on some vehicles to separate, raising the likelihood of being involved in a crash.

Although there are no specific warning signs associated with the recall issue, one recorded crash involving a single vehicle resulted in minor injuries.

Rivian plans to address the problem by replacing any affected rear toe links using current service procedures. The company will begin notifying owners on February 24, 2026, at which point the VINs associated with the recalled vehicles will be searchable.
