Microsoft Discontinuing Lens Scanner App on iOS and Android

In a recent announcement, Microsoft revealed its decision to remove the Lens scanner app from both iOS and Android platforms in the upcoming months. Known to most users as Office Lens, the app is set to no longer receive support starting February 9th, with complete functionality ceasing on March 9th.

Transition to OneDrive for Scanner Features

Despite the discontinuation of the dedicated Lens app, users can still access the portable scanner features through OneDrive. This transition makes a standalone app unnecessary for Microsoft users. With this integration, individuals can continue capturing images of whiteboards, documents, and receipts, as well as saving and editing them digitally within OneDrive. Furthermore, these images can be converted into Word or PDF documents, with the ability to crop and rotate them as needed.

History of Microsoft Office Lens

Microsoft initially introduced the Office Lens app for iOS and Android back in 2015, following its initial launch on Windows Phone. Offering unique Office integration capabilities, it stood out as one of the many “mobile-first” apps developed by Microsoft a decade ago for iOS and Android platforms.
