Microsoft Urges IT Admins to Address Windows IIS Failures Immediately
Microsoft Advises Businesses on Mitigating Known MSMQ Issue in Windows Environments
Recently, Microsoft has urged businesses to seek guidance on how to temporarily address a known Message Queuing (MSMQ) problem that is causing disruptions in enterprise applications and Internet Information Services (IIS) sites.
MSMQ, a Windows service commonly utilized in enterprise settings to facilitate communication between applications over a network, is at the center of this issue.
The issue primarily impacts users of Windows 10 22H2, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server 2016 devices who have installed security updates KB5071546, KB5071544, and KB5071543 released during December 2025’s Patch Tuesday.
While Microsoft is actively investigating and working on a solution, it has advised enterprise customers to contact them for guidance on temporarily mitigating the issue in their environments.
According to Microsoft, individuals using Windows Home or Pro editions on personal devices are unlikely to encounter this problem, as it predominantly affects enterprise or managed IT environments. Affected users may experience a range of symptoms, including inactive MSMQ queues, applications unable to write to queues, and IIS sites failing with “insufficient resources” errors.
The root of the problem lies in changes to the MSMQ security model, altering permissions on a critical system folder and necessitating MSMQ users to have write access to a directory typically restricted to administrators.
Microsoft has not yet provided a timeline for when a fix will be available and has not confirmed whether an emergency update will be issued or if they will wait for the next scheduled release. In the meantime, IT administrators grappling with this issue are encouraged to reach out to Microsoft’s business support team for a temporary workaround or consider rolling back the updates.
Back in July, Microsoft also sought advice from businesses on addressing another known issue causing problems with Cluster service and VM restarts after installing the July 2025 Windows Server 2019 security updates.
