Narnia: The Magician’s Apprentice – Updates on Release Date, Cast, Plot, and More!

It has been a considerable amount of time since the release of the last Narnia film, but now Greta Gerwig is set to bring her unique perspective to this iconic story following her success with Barbie in 2023.

The Chronicles of Narnia, a beloved fantasy series by the renowned British author C. S. Lewis, is getting a fresh adaptation by Gerwig for Netflix. This adaptation comes after Netflix signed a deal with the C.S. Lewis Company in 2018 to create films and shows based on the series.

Following the success of Frankenstein and Knives Out, this project marks Netflix’s next major undertaking, geared towards younger audiences similar to the Enola Holmes series.

Unfortunately, the reception of these films fell short of Disney’s expectations, leading to no further adaptations being made.

Greta Gerwig’s Narnia series will kick off with the story of the creation of Narnia. The upcoming film, titled Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, will be based on the sixth book in The Chronicles series and serves as a prequel to the main narrative. This novel has never been adapted before, adding excitement to the project.

The release of Netflix’s The Chronicles of Narnia, despite being a Netflix movie, will begin in cinemas on Thursday, 26 November 2026 (Thanksgiving) for a limited time before it becomes available on Netflix.

The plot of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew revolves around two children, Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer, who stumble upon a magical portal that leads them to various worlds. These adventures ultimately bring them to the creation of Narnia by the lion Aslan.

While the cast for The Chronicles of Narnia has not been officially confirmed, rumors suggest that David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Daniel Craig, and Meryl Streep may be part of the ensemble.
