Nvidia Confirms Windows Update Causing Gaming Problems in October
Nvidia Addresses Gaming Performance Issues on Windows 11 with Hotfix Driver
Recently, Nvidia confirmed that the security updates released last month are causing gaming performance issues on systems running Windows 11 24H2 and Windows 11 25H2. To tackle this issue, the American technology giant has rolled out the GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 581.94.
According to Nvidia, users may experience lower performance in some games after updating to Windows 11 October 2025 KB5066835 [5561605]. This prompted the release of the hotfix driver to address the performance degradation.
It is important to note that the hotfix driver is considered a beta version and does not undergo the standard quality assurance process of Nvidia’s regular drivers. These hotfix drivers are swiftly released to address issues impacting a large number of users.
Nvidia explained, “The GeForce Hotfix driver is our way of trying to deliver these fixes to you more promptly. They are essentially the same as the previous version, with a few additional targeted fixes.”
“These Hotfix drivers are beta, optional, and provided as-is. They go through a shortened QA process. The primary purpose of these drivers is to expedite the delivery of fixes to users,” Nvidia added.
As reported by Windows Latest, users can download the hotfix driver for Windows 10 x64 and Windows 11 x64 PCs from Nvidia’s Customer Care support site to resolve these gaming performance issues.
Aside from gaming-related problems, the October 2025 Windows updates have caused various other issues. Microsoft had to address bugs that affected localhost HTTP connections, triggered smart card authentication issues, and disrupted the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) on systems using USB mice and keyboards.
In November, Microsoft also fixed a Windows 10 update bug that caused incorrect end-of-support alerts and another issue that led some systems to boot into BitLocker recovery mode.
However, since the beginning of the year, Microsoft has lifted two Windows 11 safeguard holds that were preventing users from deploying the Windows 11 2024 Update due to compatibility issues affecting Auto HDR or Asphalt 8: Airborne, which caused game freezes.
