OpenAI’s GPT-5: A Game-Changer in Managing Mental and Emotional Turmoil
OpenAI recently announced an update to GPT-5, enhancing its ability to handle sensitive conversations effectively.
The update, rolled out on October 5, equips GPT-5 with the capability to identify when users are experiencing emotional or mental distress, ensuring a more empathetic response.
Specifically, the update has been implemented in GPT-5 Instant, a fast and budget-friendly model that is commonly used by those with free accounts.
If a user engages with a GPT-5-thinking model and exhibits signs of distress, the system will automatically redirect the conversation to GPT-5 Instant for better support.
OpenAI stated in a support document that GPT-5 Instant now performs on par with GPT-5 Thinking when handling sensitive topics.
Previous tests conducted by BleepingComputer revealed that GPT-5 dynamically switches between models based on the nature of the conversation.

Even if a user selects GPT-5 Instant specifically, the system may still route the request through a thinking model if deemed more suitable.
Collaboration with Health Experts for Enhanced Support
OpenAI emphasized that the updates to GPT-5 were developed in consultation with mental health professionals to ensure a responsible approach to handling sensitive conversations.
The platform now offers users access to real-world crisis resources when necessary, maintaining a supportive and reassuring tone throughout interactions.
The emotional support feature was introduced earlier this month, making the updated GPT-5 available to all users.
Moreover, OpenAI has integrated Company Knowledge support into ChatGPT, enabling access to organizational context through connected apps like Slack, Google Drive, and Asana.
This enhancement allows GPT-5 to provide tailored responses based on company-specific information, akin to Microsoft 365 Copilot’s functionality.
Recent data shows a significant increase in password cracking incidents, with 46% of environments affected compared to 25% last year.
