ELECTRIC MINI COOPER FLEET FOR BIOGENA 2

Biogena Boosts Sustainability Efforts with Largest Zero-Emission MINI Fleet in Austria

In a significant move towards decarbonizing its fleet, Biogena made headlines in 2021 when it acquired 82 MINI Cooper SE electric hatchbacks as company cars. Fast forward to the present, Biogena is taking its commitment to electric vehicles to the next level by placing an order for the largest fleet of zero-emission MINIs in Austria. A total of 126 vehicles sans combustion engines are set to be delivered by the first quarter of 2026.

The latest press images showcase Biogena’s recent acquisition of 59 cars from the newest “J01” generation MINI Cooper. The handover event was a momentous occasion held at the company’s headquarters in Salzburg. Once the entire fleet is assembled, Biogena will proudly claim the title of owning the second-largest fleet of electric MINIs in all of Europe.

Curious minds may wonder who holds the top position in this electrifying race. The honor goes to Deloitte, a renowned professional services network based in London, which secured the top spot by purchasing 240 fully electric MINIs, starting with 100 EVs in 2020 and adding another 140 in the subsequent year.

Turning the spotlight back to Biogena, the procurement of these new vehicles was facilitated through MINI’s direct sales system, which was introduced in October 2024. This fleet acquisition of 126 cars marks the most substantial delivery through the agency model to date. MINI reports that over half of the MINIs registered in Austria are attributed to fleet sales, with approximately 56% designated as company vehicles.

To further shrink its carbon footprint, Biogena reveals that half of the energy used to charge its electric MINIs is sourced locally. Through a combination of its EV fleet and in-house energy generation, the company claims an annual reduction of 84,000 kilograms of CO₂ emissions.

The first half of 2025 witnessed a remarkable surge in MINI’s sales within Austria, with an impressive growth rate exceeding 24%. Notably, deliveries of electric vehicles skyrocketed by over 160% during this period. While MINI currently operates under the agency model, the parent brand BMW is slated to transition to direct sales by 2027.

But what exactly is the agency model, and how does it benefit all parties involved? In this setup, vehicles are sold directly by the automaker to customers, while dealers earn a fixed commission for each sale. The manufacturer retains ownership of the vehicles and establishes uniform pricing nationwide, ensuring pricing consistency across all sales outlets.

In theory, the agency model creates a win-win situation for everyone: dealers continue to generate revenue, BMW and MINI streamline costs, and customers enjoy transparent and consistent pricing, regardless of their purchase location.

With MINI’s continuous growth in the Austrian market and Biogena’s pioneering efforts in sustainability, the landscape of electric vehicles in the region is undoubtedly evolving rapidly. These developments herald a promising future for eco-friendly transportation and corporate responsibility.
