Microsoft Investigating Exchange Online Service Outage Impacting Outlook Users

Microsoft is currently investigating an Exchange Online service outage that is causing disruptions for customers accessing their mailboxes using the classic Outlook desktop client. The incident, tracked under the reference number EX1189820, was first reported at 09:57 AM UTC. Users are experiencing connectivity issues, server connection problems, and login difficulties as a result of this outage.

According to Microsoft, the connectivity failures are specific to users in the Asia Pacific and North America regions who are trying to connect to their Exchange Online mailbox using the classic Outlook experience. The tech giant is actively working to identify the root cause of the issue and resolve it promptly.

As a temporary solution, Microsoft recommends affected customers to access their mailboxes through Outlook on the Web until the problem is fully addressed.

Search Issues in Classic Outlook Desktop Client

In addition to the connectivity problems, Microsoft is also investigating a separate incident (EX1189768) that is causing search issues for users of the classic Outlook desktop client. This issue was acknowledged on Thursday morning at 05:05 AM UTC. The company is analyzing service-side logs to determine the cause of the problem and develop a mitigation plan.

This recent service disruption follows a DNS outage in late October that affected Azure and Microsoft 365 services, preventing users from accessing various platforms. In October, Microsoft also resolved incidents related to Microsoft Teams, Exchange Online, and the admin center, as well as an Azure Front Door CDN issue impacting services in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
