Nioh 3's first big patch "partially" fixes an issue which can make it impossible to heal mid-fight

Nioh 3 Receives Major Post-Release Patch

The highly anticipated boss battler Nioh 3 has just released its first significant post-launch patch on February 13th. This update brings a range of improvements, including a “partial” resolution to a critical issue where players were unable to use healing elixirs during battles.

This issue could have caused immense frustration for players, as highlighted by Sherif from VG247. While seeking additional confirmation from our reviewer Jeremy, who experienced such intense gameplay that he left a mark on his desk, we can now confirm the fix has been implemented.

Aside from addressing the elixir problem, the patch also includes fixes for specific boss bugs affecting characters like Takasugi Shinsaku, Minamoto no Yoritomo, and Kajiwara Kagetoki. Furthermore, Koei Tecmo has made broader adjustments in version 1.03.01 of the game, such as increasing enemy health in the Training Ground Battle Scroll and allowing players to pray at shrines during battles. Additionally, the patch now automatically generates backup save data when loading game saves.

One standout fix from the patch notes addresses a cosmetic issue where certain hair selections in Character Creation caused hair to float above the character’s head. With this fix, players can now enjoy a seamless gaming experience without any misbehaving trims.

Despite facing challenges during gameplay, Jeremy awarded Nioh 3 with high praise, stating, “Wonky performance aside, Nioh 3 is excellent.” While acknowledging that the game may not reach the same level of elegance as FromSoftware’s titles or the creativity of recent Chinese soulslikes like Black Myth: Wukong, Jeremy commended Nioh 3 for expertly blending elements from various genres into a captivating experience. Describing it as a “chanpurū” – a mix of influences – Jeremy encourages players to explore the game, engage in the Crucible, and interact with the charming Chijiko characters.
