Google Search widget on iPhone adds customizable shortcuts

The Google app for iPhone and iPad now offers customizable shortcuts in the Search widget, including a new option for Gemini.

Prior to this update, the Medium widget displayed a pill-shaped search bar with shortcuts for Lens, Voice Search, and Incognito.

Users can now customize the bottom row of shortcuts with a fourth slot added, choosing from options like Activity, Gemini, Homework (Google Lens), Incognito, Lens, Screenshots (Google Lens), Song Search, Translate, Translate – Camera, Translate – Voice, and Voice Search.

Several actions within the widget open specific Google Lens filters, with the Gemini shortcut being a notable addition, appearing next to the Search tab on iOS.

To edit the shortcuts, users can tap their profile picture in the top-right corner of the Google app, go to Settings, and select Widgets. Additionally, users can set a Widget theme with options like Earth, Abstract art, and Solid colors.

While the Small widget does not offer customization options, it was updated a few months ago to include voice search and Google Lens.

Google is also working on a similar update for the Android Search widget, which will allow users to place customizable shortcuts on their home screens, with one customizable shortcut available alongside Voice Search and Lens.
