Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake Details Revealed

Ubisoft seems to have made progress on the long-rumored remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, as a domain registration has surfaced with the title “Black Flag Resynced.” The domain was registered 25 days ago by a company previously associated with Ubisoft’s game registrations, hinting at an imminent announcement. While Ubisoft has hinted at revisiting their older titles for remakes and remasters, they have not officially confirmed this particular remake yet, despite numerous leaks.

The upcoming remake, reportedly running on the Anvil Pipeline engine, is expected to bring significant changes. Notably, all modern-day sequences will be removed, meaning iconic characters like Rebbeca and Shaun will be absent. The modern-day storyline, once central to the series, has taken a backseat in recent entries, with only textual references in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Instead, players can anticipate “a few extra hours of content,” including previously cut elements like Mary Read’s narrative.

Gameplay in the remake is said to adopt a more RPG-style approach seen in recent Assassin’s Creed titles, featuring loot, weapon stats, and a revamped inventory system. Combat mechanics will also align with the newer games in the series. While the map size remains unchanged, players can expect more activities to engage with, and seamless transitions between ship and land exploration with no loading screens, thanks to modern technology.

A report from Jeux Vidéo Magazine suggests a potential early 2026 release date, possibly in March, slightly later than initially anticipated. The development is being handled by Ubisoft studios in Singapore, Belgrade, and Bordeaux, with speculation that assets from Skull & Bones might be repurposed to streamline production costs.
