PlayStation Portal: Unlimited Streaming with PS Plus Cloud
Sony Officially Launches Cloud Streaming for PlayStation Portal
Approximately a year after the initial launch of the Cloud Streaming beta for PlayStation Portal, Sony has made a significant announcement regarding the official launch of this feature. In addition, users will now have the ability to stream their own games, provided they have a PS Portal and an active PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.
The update is scheduled to roll out overnight at 2AM on November 6th GMT, or 6PM on November 5th on the US West Coast.
One of the standout features of this update is the introduction of Cloud Streaming for personal games, allowing users to stream directly from Sony’s servers instead of relying on Remote Play with their console. This enhancement promises improved performance, thanks to server optimization specifically for streaming purposes. This expansion also enables players to stream digitally owned games that are not part of the PS Plus library, including popular titles like Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, and Grand Theft Auto V.
Sony’s announcement highlights the potential for new multiplayer experiences, such as playing with another user on a PS5 while streaming from the cloud. The update aims to enhance the portability and reliability of the PS Portal, eliminating the need to keep the PS5 in standby mode or restrict its use by other household members.
For a comprehensive list of games available for streaming, users can visit Sony’s website, although navigating the search bar may prove challenging.
Furthermore, the system software of the PS Portal has undergone a significant overhaul. The refreshed user interface now presents three main options upon booting up – remote play, cloud streaming, and a dedicated cloud streaming search. New features include 3D audio support for streamed games, a passcode lock, and a network status screen for optimizing connectivity. In-game stores now function seamlessly, with improved accessibility options tailored for streaming experiences. Additionally, game invitations are now integrated at a system level.
Overall, this update represents a substantial improvement for PS Portal users, particularly those with a PS Plus Premium subscription.
