Amazon Prime Video Pulls AI-Powered Recap of ‘Fallout’

Amazon Prime Video recently removed its AI-generated video recaps after viewers pointed out inaccuracies in the storytelling. The streaming service had introduced Video Recaps as a new feature, but it is now missing from shows like ‘Fallout,’ ‘The Rig,’ ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,’ ‘Upload,’ and ‘Bosch.’

The concept behind the Video Recaps was to utilize AI technology to analyze the key plot points of a series and condense them into a short video with an AI voiceover and clips from the show.

However, in the recap of season one of ‘Fallout,’ Amazon Prime Video incorrectly stated that a flashback of The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) was set in “1950s America” instead of the correct year, 2077. This error was initially pointed out by Games Radar.

The AI-narrator of the ‘Fallout’ recap also inaccurately mentioned that The Ghoul gave Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell) a choice to “die or leave with him” on a quest to find her father. The situation was more nuanced, as Lucy had the option to accompany The Ghoul or stay behind, risking an attack from The Brotherhood of Steel.

According to Amazon, the AI-powered recaps were supposed to be displayed on a series’ detail page when a viewer navigated to the next season of a supported show. However, these recaps have now been removed entirely. The Verge contacted Prime Video for a statement but has not received a response as of yet.
