Protect Your Smartphone: Beware of Battery-Draining Android Apps

Last November, Google introduced a “bad behavior threshold” for app developers, enabling the exclusion of apps that excessively deplete battery life from recommended results or warning users about them.

Recently, Google implemented this feature in the Play Store, notifying users about apps that exhibit high battery consumption due to extensive background activity. The goal is to assist users in identifying potential battery-draining apps before download.

The collaboration between Google and Samsung led to the creation of a new metric named “excessive partial wake locks” to assess how frequently apps disturb the device’s sleep mode for background processes.

Exceptions to the warning system include apps with clear user benefits for high energy consumption, such as music playback, location services, and user-initiated data transfers.

Google plans to introduce this system gradually in the upcoming weeks.
