PUBG: Blindspot Shuts Down Early Despite Record Revenues
The Closure of PUBG: Blindspot – A Tactical Shooter’s Short-Lived Journey
Developed by Arc Team and published by Krafton, the free-to-play tactical shooter PUBG: Blindspot is facing an untimely end just a few months into its early access phase. Launched on February 5th, the game is set to shut down on March 30th, leaving players disappointed.
Despite receiving mostly positive user reviews and being likened to a blend of “top-down Rainbow Six Siege with a bit of Hotline Miami”, the game formerly known as Project Arc failed to sustain its momentum. This unfortunate decision highlights the challenges faced by game developers in the current market environment.
In a recent Steam update, Arc Team’s representative, Sequoia Yang, expressed their team’s efforts to enhance the gameplay experience. However, after careful deliberation, they concluded that they could not meet the desired level of player satisfaction. This dedication to prioritizing player experience was the driving force behind the decision to discontinue the game.
Yang also acknowledged the valuable feedback and support from the players, emphasizing that it will guide their future development endeavors. The closure of Blindspot may not have been anticipated by many, but as a spin-off of the popular PUBG: Battlegrounds, expectations were undoubtedly high within Krafton.
Comparatively, Blindspot’s two-month lifespan surpasses Firewalk’s Concord, which was terminated by Sony after only three weeks. Despite the setback, Arc Team remains hopeful for future projects and aims to return with new and improved experiences.
While Krafton has been embroiled in legal disputes with Subnautica 2 developers, the company’s financial success has been notable, with annual revenue exceeding $2 billion in 2025. PUBG: Battlegrounds continues to be a revenue powerhouse, maintaining its position as one of the most-played games on Steam.
Amidst cost-cutting measures and workforce restructuring, Krafton’s focus remains on innovation and adaptation to the evolving gaming landscape. Another PUBG spin-off, PUBG: Black Budget, promises a unique first-person extraction shooter experience with time-warp elements.
