Quantum Systems Expands Autonomous Capabilities with FERNRIDE Partnership
Quantum Systems Acquires FERNRIDE to Expand Leadership in Autonomous Systems
Two prominent German innovators in the autonomous technology sector have joined forces as Quantum Systems, a pioneer in AI-powered unmanned systems, has announced the acquisition of FERNRIDE. This strategic move aims to bolster Quantum Systems’ position from air and software intelligence to autonomous ground mobility, paving the way for a comprehensive offering of intelligent unmanned systems across different domains.
Both Quantum Systems and FERNRIDE have recently secured significant funding, with Quantum Systems raising €180 million and FERNRIDE raising €18 million, showcasing investor confidence in their innovative solutions.
“FERNRIDE has developed a highly advanced and scalable autonomous ground platform,” stated Martin Karkour, Chief Revenue Officer of Quantum Systems. “By integrating their technology into MOSAIC UXS, we are aligning with our vision of creating a connected ecosystem where unmanned systems operate seamlessly across various dimensions.”
The European defense, robotics, and autonomous systems sector has seen continued funding activity in 2025, setting the stage for strategic acquisitions like the one between Quantum Systems and FERNRIDE.
Notable Developments in the European Autonomous Systems Sector
Several European companies have made significant strides in the autonomous systems space. London-based Arondite secured €10.5 million to develop AI software focusing on human-machine teaming, while Valencia-based Voltrac received €2 million for autonomous ground vehicles in agriculture and logistics. Warsaw-headquartered Orbotix raised €6.5 million for AI-driven defense systems, and Monopulse, a drone manufacturer in Denmark and Lithuania, secured €1.12 million for UAV production.
When compared to these disclosed funding rounds totaling over €20 million, the financial backing behind Quantum Systems and FERNRIDE stands out as exceptional.
Germany Leads the Way in Autonomous Technology
Germany is at the forefront of autonomous technology advancements, with Munich-based ARX Robotics recently unveiling a combat-capable unmanned ground vehicle, showcasing the country’s commitment to innovation in air and ground systems.
“Europe’s need for autonomous solutions is paramount. By merging with Quantum Systems, we can elevate our technology to new heights,” emphasized Hendrik Kramer, CEO and co-founder of FERNRIDE. “Together, we are accelerating the deployment of our platform in the defense sector, with future applications extending to civilian logistics, enhancing safety and resilience in our society.”
Quantum Systems, established in 2015, specializes in intelligent unmanned systems, delivering mission-grade ISR and autonomy solutions to military, government, and commercial clients. The integration of FERNRIDE’s solutions into MOSAIC UXS is poised to enhance situational awareness and decision-making in multi-domain operations.
FERNRIDE, founded in 2019, offers a proven software platform for ground autonomy in various sectors, including defense logistics and autonomous driving. In 2025, FERNRIDE became the first company in Europe to receive TÜV approval for autonomous trucks, with successful trials conducted with the German Armed Forces.
Continued Growth and Success
This acquisition follows Quantum Systems’ recent valuation increase to €3 billion and their previous acquisition of drone technology innovator AirRobot. These milestones underscore the ongoing growth and success of the German startup in the autonomous technology landscape.
