Racing Against the Demand: Sora and Nano Banana Pro Struggle to Keep Up
AI-Generated Fun Limits Imposed by Google and OpenAI
This holiday weekend, those looking to enjoy some AI-generated entertainment will need to act quickly. Google and OpenAI have decided to reduce the number of generation requests allowed for Nano Banana Pro and Sora due to overwhelming demand.
According to Bill Peebles, the head of Sora at OpenAI, free users will now only have six video generations per day. Peebles mentioned that their GPUs are under significant strain due to the high demand. Unlike previous restrictions, Peebles did not specify whether these new limits are temporary. He did, however, mention that users have the option to purchase additional generations as needed, as part of a wider effort to monetize the platform. Limits for ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers remain unchanged, although the specifics were not disclosed.
In addition to OpenAI’s restrictions, Google has also implemented limitations for free users on Nano Banana Pro. Users are now only allowed to generate two images per day, down from the previous limit of three. This change was initially reported by 9to5Google. Google cautions that these limits may change frequently and without prior notice, a common practice following the launch of popular services. The company also seems to be restricting free users’ access to Gemini 3 Pro.
