Our Verdict
Daredevil: Born Again’s second season stands out as one of the most impressive projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in recent years. It delivers intense action sequences intertwined with heartfelt character moments.
From 2015 to 2018, Daredevil gained immense popularity on Netflix. The series followed Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil or The Man With No Fear in the comic books. The show’s gritty action style became iconic, and Vincent D’Onofrio’s portrayal of Kingpin received widespread acclaim.
After a period of uncertainty regarding the future of the beloved characters, Daredevil: Born Again brought them back to the screen on Disney+ within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The story picks up years after their last appearance, with Wilson Fisk running for mayor of New York and Matt Murdock focusing on his legal career.
While the series received positive feedback, it was slightly overshadowed by its predecessor. The season finale took an unexpected turn as Fisk became mayor, imposed a curfew, and initiated a crackdown on all vigilantes, including Daredevil and Karen Page.
With heightened stakes and shifting dynamics, expectations are high for the second season of Born Again. Continue reading for a spoiler-free overview of this season.
A new mayor in town
Fisk’s actions as mayor drive much of the season’s narrative. The story begins with his task force pursuing Karen and Matt, who are searching for ways to resist Fisk’s rule. Fisk is determined to suppress any form of opposition, whether on the streets or within his administration, utilizing his loyal associate Buck to maintain his power.
Besides Daredevil, Kingpin also faces a threat from Bullseye (Benjamin Pointdexter), who has his sights set on Fisk and his allies. Fans will be delighted to see the return of Jessica Jones, portrayed once again by Krysten Ritter. While her role is supportive this time, it hints at potential future appearances in the MCU, following the comeback of Punisher (Frank Castle) in the previous season.
It’s not just Daredevil that Kingpin has to contend with – Bullseye/Benjamin Pointdexter is on the loose
The conflict in this season moves beyond covert operations and dark alley fights seen in earlier seasons. The showdown is brought into the open, affecting the entire city, not just Hell’s Kitchen. Despite its larger scale, the focus on character development remains intact.
Raising the stakes
A broader narrative allows for more significant set pieces in this season. Action and suspense are abundant, featuring intense sequences involving Matt, Bullseye, and others. The groundwork laid in the previous season leads to a compelling start, maintaining a high level of tension throughout.
There are some truly savage sequences that wouldn’t be out of place in the original show
Both Fisk and Matt, along with their allies, display a sense of urgency – Fisk to retain his newfound power and Matt’s team to reclaim their city. The struggle is engaging and keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.
Initial concerns about Daredevil’s integration into the wider MCU, particularly regarding tone consistency, were proven unwarranted. The season delivers brutal sequences reminiscent of the original show, strategically balancing action with storytelling.
A dream ensemble
The core of the show revolves around the conflict between Matt and Fisk. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio impeccably portray these characters. The season’s brilliance is further elevated by the exceptional performances from the supporting cast. Matthew Lillard shines as Mr. George, a mysterious CIA agent seeking influence, while Michael Gandolfini continues to impress as Daniel, one of Fisk’s subordinates torn between paths.
The ensemble cast excels without any weak links. New additions serve a purpose, and characters introduced in the previous season have more depth in this installment.
Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio were born to play these characters
The series weaves multiple storylines seamlessly, thanks to showrunner Dario Scardapane’s adept handling of the narrative elements.

Daredevil: Born Again’s second season serves as the true continuation that fans have eagerly awaited since 2018. It skillfully navigates the heightened stakes and repercussions of Fisk’s rise to power while preserving the essence that made the show exceptional.
