Slow Ventures Hosts Etiquette Finishing School for Founders

A recent event hosted by Slow Ventures delved into the realm of etiquette for founders, featuring a three-hour “Etiquette Finishing School.” The gathering covered various essential topics such as mastering the perfect handshake, honing public speaking skills, and understanding office decorum. Notably, attendees were treated to a fashion show showcasing diverse looks for different occasions, culminating in a final lesson on caviar and wine.

According to reports from The San Francisco Standard, a considerable number of founders applied for this unique program, which was conducted at the prestigious Four Seasons in San Francisco’s financial district. Out of the numerous applicants, only 50 founders were accepted to participate, with a predominantly male presence among the attendees.

Interestingly, the genesis of this initiative traces back to a casual remark, with Slow Ventures initially gauging interest at Y Combinator’s Demo Day. Despite some discouragement from YC CEO Garry Tan, who advised founders against attending, Tan later clarified his stance on social media by expressing no animosity towards Slow Ventures. He emphasized the importance of focusing on innovation and user satisfaction rather than traditional etiquette.

One participant, preferring to remain anonymous, shared their motivation for joining the program, citing a desire to refine their behavior and adopt a more polished demeanor.

During the event, Sam Lessin, a general partner at Slow Ventures, addressed the audience, highlighting the evolving nature of the tech industry. He emphasized the need for founders to approach their work with respect and professionalism, especially considering the industry’s impact on job markets and societal norms.
