Microsoft Releases Out-of-Band Update to Fix Windows 11 Update Issue

Microsoft has recently rolled out the KB5072753 out-of-band cumulative update to address a known issue that was causing the November 2025 KB5068966 hotpatch update to reinstall on Windows 11 systems repeatedly.

The issue, as explained by Microsoft in an update to the KB5068966 advisory, was causing the Windows 11 25H2 hotpatch to be reoffered after installation.

Despite the recurring installation of the update, Microsoft clarified that the known issue did not affect the functionality of the system and would only become apparent when checking the timestamp in the update history.

To resolve this issue, Microsoft released the KB5072753 out-of-band hotpatch, which is currently being distributed to all Windows 11 25H2 devices via Windows Update.

This cumulative update not only addresses the reinstallation problem but also includes improvements and security fixes from the KB5068966 security update.

It is important to note that users do not need to apply any previous updates before installing this latest update, as it supersedes all previous updates for affected versions.

If the November 2025 hotpatch update (KB5068966) has not been deployed on Windows 11, version 25H2 devices in your environment, Microsoft recommends applying this out-of-band update (KB5072753) instead.

Earlier this week, Microsoft also released an emergency update for Windows 10 to address issues with installing the November 2025 extended security updates. Some users encountered errors such as 0x800f0922 (CBS_E_INSTALLERS_FAILED) during the update process.

Prior to that, Microsoft fixed a bug that was triggering incorrect end-of-support warnings on Windows 10 devices after installing the October 2025 updates. Users were receiving messages on the Windows Update Settings page indicating that their version of Windows had reached the end of support.
