Microsoft Edge’s new Copilot Mode turns on more AI features

Microsoft Edge Browser to Undergo Major UI Refresh

In the near future, Microsoft is set to roll out a significant user interface update for its Edge browser. This refresh will see the integration of design elements from the Copilot app into the early test versions of Microsoft Edge.

Notable changes in the design overhaul include a revamped settings section mirroring the Copilot app, updated context menus, and a redesigned new tab page. According to Windows Central, the Edge browser will feature rounded corners and adopt the same color scheme and typography as the Copilot app.

It is important to note that the new UI of Microsoft Edge will not be limited to the Copilot Mode. Microsoft is committed to incorporating Copilot’s distinctive design language throughout Edge, potentially extending to other Microsoft web properties and even Windows in the future.

Mustafa Suleyman, Microsoft AI CEO, disclosed last year that the company’s strategy for Edge involves continuous evolution rather than introducing an entirely new AI browser. Suleyman emphasized that Edge will offer a seamless user experience without the need for a separate browser, as conveyed in an interview with Notepad.

By aligning the Copilot design language more closely with Edge, Microsoft aims to enhance the browser’s focus on AI capabilities. The Copilot design language differs significantly from the Fluent design system utilized in many Microsoft products. Following the integration of the Inflection AI team into Microsoft in 2024, Copilot underwent a comprehensive design revamp, bearing a striking resemblance to the Pi AI assistant developed by Inflection AI.
