Volkswagen ID. 4 to be renamed as part of extensive facelift - report

The Volkswagen ID. 4 is Getting a Major Facelift and a New Name

Volkswagen’s popular ID. 4 electric vehicle is set to undergo a significant transformation, not only in terms of its exterior design but also in its name. According to reports from Automotive News, the revamped ID. 4 will be rebranded as the ID. Tiguan. This change was recently confirmed by IG Metall, the union representing Volkswagen’s German factory workers, during a press conference at the company’s Emden plant.

The Emden factory, which has been converted to focus solely on electric vehicle production, is one of the key sites manufacturing the ID. 4, alongside the Zwickau plant.

Recent sightings of the revised ID. 4 reveal a comprehensive mid-life facelift, with almost every exterior panel being redesigned. While the overall shape remains unchanged, the new design features crisper lines, updated doors, fenders, and wheel arches, giving the vehicle a fresh and modern look.

The upcoming ID. Tiguan is expected to follow a similar redesign approach, with a revamped interior featuring physical buttons and dials instead of capacitive touch controls. The cabin will also showcase premium materials and the latest touchscreen infotainment system from Volkswagen.

Under the hood, the ID. Tiguan will utilize an updated version of the MEB architecture, with the possibility of introducing new battery technologies for improved performance and range.

While an official confirmation of the ID. Tiguan’s release date in Australia is still pending, speculations suggest it may hit the market around 2027.
