Revolutionary BMW Roundel Screw Technology: A Game-Changer for Maintenance
Unveiling BMW’s Innovative Patent: A Closer Look at the New Screw Design
BMW has always been a pioneer in design, technology, and engineering. Their latest patent has caused quite a stir in the automotive world. The patent showcases a unique fastener concept that is not only clever and unmistakably branded but also engineered to add an element of exclusivity to basic access.
The patent reveals BMW’s experimentation with proprietary screw heads inspired by the company’s iconic roundel emblem. Instead of traditional Torx or hex hardware, the design features a circular head divided into four quadrants, mirroring the emblem’s layout. The patent showcases four different head types, each incorporating the logo-inspired geometry.
Functionally, the concept utilizes an unconventional engagement pattern. Two quadrants are recessed, while the remaining sections are flat or raised. This design would require a custom-made driver, making it difficult for ordinary tools to grip the fastener. Additionally, BMW has embossed its logo around the outer ring, adding a touch of sophistication to the fastener.
Applications of the New Screws
The patent suggests that these screws could be used in structural and semi-structural applications, such as seat mountings and areas where the interior connects to the vehicle body. These are critical locations that require proper equipment and procedures. By introducing a proprietary head design, BMW aims to limit unauthorized individuals from tampering with these high-torque components.
Potential Production Series
It is important to note that these screws are currently in the concept stage and have not been integrated into production parts. While the designs were submitted in 2024 and made public in 2025, they remain theoretical at this point. Automakers often file patents that do not materialize into actual products. Whether these innovative screws will enter production series remains to be seen.
