Revolutionary Design: The Covini C6W Six-Wheeled Supercar

Italian engineer Ferruccio Covini turned a unique vision into reality by creating a supercar with six wheels. This unconventional design featured four wheels on the front axle and two wheels on the rear axle, setting it apart from traditional supercars.

While six-wheeled vehicles are rare, the Chinese XPeng AeroHT took a similar approach by incorporating a rear-mounted four-wheel design. However, the Covini C6W took this concept further by positioning the extra wheels behind the front wheels, resulting in a distinctive and eye-catching appearance.

Equipped with a powerful 4.2-liter Audi-sourced V8 engine, the Covini C6W boasted an impressive output of 430 to 440 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, this supercar could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 3.9 seconds and achieve a top speed exceeding 189 mph.

The interior of the Covini C6W exuded a classic charm, featuring an analog gauge cluster and minimalistic design elements. With a focus on functionality, the prototype model lacked modern amenities such as an infotainment system, cup holders, or storage bins.

The history of the Covini C6W dates back to 1976 when the project was initially conceived. After facing financial challenges in the 1980s, the project was revived in 2003, leading to the development of a prototype by 2004. Despite a limited production run of 6 to 8 units per year, the project was halted in 2016 before resuming production on demand.

Crafted from a combination of carbon fiber and fiberglass, the Covini C6W maintained a lightweight profile of only 1,150 kg. Inspired by the iconic Tyrrell P34 F1 car from the 1970s, this supercar featured a tubular chassis and a removable roof reminiscent of Koenigsegg models.

In 2005, an updated version of the Covini C6W was introduced, showcasing a revised roof structure, enhanced interior, and new wheel sizes. Despite these refinements, the core design with a mid-mounted Audi-sourced V8 engine remained unchanged.

With a price tag of $685,763 (580,000 euros), the Covini C6W became available for purchase through on-demand production in 2022. This unique supercar, with its front-mounted axle and distinctive six-wheel configuration, joined the ranks of other notable models like the Tyrrell P34, Ford Seattle-ite XXI, and Panther 6, offering enthusiasts a truly one-of-a-kind driving experience.
