Revolutionizing In-Car Entertainment: Cadillac and Chevy Partner with Apple Music
GM to Integrate Apple Music into Select 2025 Cadillac and Chevrolet Vehicles
General Motors has announced that it will be adding native Apple Music to the infotainment systems of specific 2025 model year Cadillac and Chevrolet vehicles. This move comes as GM aims to enhance the in-car entertainment experience for customers by including popular apps directly in the vehicle’s system, compensating for the absence of well-known phone mirroring services like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Starting in 2025, eligible Chevy and Cadillac models will receive Apple Music integration through an over-the-air software update. This update will be accessible through GM’s OnStar Basics package, provided at no extra cost for eight years on all 2025 and newer vehicles. Models that qualify for the update include the 2025 and 2026 Cadillac CT5, Escalade IQ, and Vistiq, as well as the 2025 and 2026 Chevy Equinox EV, Blazer EV, Silverado EV, and the 2026 Corvette, Suburban, and Tahoe. Buick and GMC vehicles are set to receive Apple Music integration at a later date.
Cadillac owners will benefit from Apple Music’s leading spatial audio through Dolby Atmos. For instance, the new Cadillac Vistiq features a standard 23-speaker AKG sound system that supports Dolby Atmos. Additionally, users of Chevy and Cadillac vehicles can start streaming music immediately upon entering the vehicle, eliminating the need to wait for CarPlay or Android Auto to connect. This feature enables hands-free control of music selection through the vehicle’s voice assistant.
GM views the inclusion of native Apple Music as an expansion of entertainment options directly integrated into their vehicles, as stated by Tim Twerdahl, GM’s vice president of global product management. While GM restricts the use of phone projection, arguing that its native infotainment system offers a more immersive experience compared to services like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the addition of Apple Music aims to enhance the overall driving experience.
In addition to Apple Music, GM is also introducing support for Apple Wallet and Digital Keys, further expanding the capabilities of their vehicles’ infotainment systems.
