Tough Kia EV5 WKNDR concept won’t ruin the weekend

The Adventurous New Kia EV5 WKNDR Concept Unveiled at Guangzhou Motor Show

The bold and innovative Kia EV5 WKNDR concept recently made its world debut at the Guangzhou motor show in China, showcasing the off-road capabilities of the Korean automaker’s mid-size electric SUV. This marks the fourth WKNDR concept from Kia, following similar show cars based on the Tasman ute, EV9 large electric SUV, and PV5 electric van.

Kia’s Chinese design team has equipped the EV5 with a range of rugged off-road features that set it apart from its competitors. These include robust front and rear bumpers, functional roof rails with tool mounts, aggressive 20-inch wheels with mud tires, and retractable yellow recovery points.

Inside, the EV5 boasts bold yellow accents on the steering wheel, center console, door cards, and seats, all made from eco-friendly BIO PU materials. The rear seats can be folded down or removed to create a flat load space with storage for camping equipment.

Additionally, the EV5 WKNDR offers camping-oriented features such as a tailgate that doubles as a camp table, ambient lighting, a built-in radio, and even a pair of binoculars. For outdoor enthusiasts, the vehicle includes a one-touch mode that helps plan routes, suggest charging stops, and identify points of interest.

While specific details about the EV5 WKNDR are not yet available, it is expected to be based on the flagship all-wheel drive GT-Line variant. The vehicle is powered by dual electric motors delivering 230kW of power and 480Nm of torque from an 88kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.

With a starting price of $71,770 before on-road costs in Australia, the MY26 Kia EV5 lineup includes four variants, beginning at $56,770 for the entry-level 2WD Standard Range model. Unlike previous WKNDR concepts, the EV5 is rumored to enter production, although a specific timeline has not been confirmed.
