Ringing in the Era of Verified Videos: Can AI Keep Up with the Fakes?

Published

Ring can verify videos now, but that might not help you with most AI fakes

Ring has recently introduced a new tool called Ring Verify, which aims to ensure the authenticity of Ring videos by confirming that they have not been altered in any way. This tool is designed to provide peace of mind to users by verifying the integrity of the videos they receive.

One of the key features of Ring Verify is the inclusion of a “digital security seal” on all videos downloaded from Ring’s cloud. This seal serves as a visual indicator of authenticity and can be used to quickly verify whether a video has been tampered with. To verify a video, users can simply upload it to the Ring Verify website and wait for the tool to confirm its authenticity.

It is important to note that Ring Verify operates based on C2PA standards, as stated by spokesperson Kaleigh Bueckert-Orme. This ensures that the verification process is robust and reliable, giving users confidence in the integrity of their Ring videos.

However, Ring Verify has its limitations. The tool is unable to verify videos that have been altered in any way, including minor adjustments like brightness tweaks. Additionally, videos that were downloaded before the launch of Ring Verify in December 2025, as well as those that have been edited, cropped, filtered, or altered in any way post-download, cannot be verified.

Furthermore, videos recorded with end-to-end encryption enabled are also ineligible for verification. In cases where a video fails the verification test, Ring is unable to provide specific details on what changes were made to the video. Users are advised to reach out to the original source of the video for an unaltered version.

Overall, Ring Verify is a valuable tool for ensuring the authenticity of Ring videos and preventing tampering. By leveraging this tool, users can have confidence in the integrity of the videos they receive and share.
