Rivian R2 Price Leak Reveals Higher-Than-Expected Starting Cost

Rivian Electric SUV Pricing Leak: What to Expect

Excitement is building as the launch of Rivian’s highly anticipated electric SUV, known as the R2, draws near. Recent leaks have provided insight into the starting prices of the different models, revealing some surprises for prospective buyers.

Details emerged after a reporter’s embargoed story accidentally went live online, sparking a frenzy of screenshots and social media posts. The leaked information suggests that the R2 Performance Launch Edition will start at $57,990, excluding a destination fee of approximately $1,495. This model is rumored to boast impressive specs, including dual motors, all-wheel drive, 656 horsepower, an 87.9-kWh battery pack, and a range of around 330 miles.

For those looking for a slightly more affordable option, the R2 Premium is expected to debut at $53,990. While it shares the same battery pack and range as the Performance Edition, it offers 450 horsepower and may lack certain features found in the higher-end model.

Further down the lineup, a rear-wheel-drive version of the R2 Standard is slated to launch at $48,490. Surprisingly, opting for rear-wheel drive is rumored to increase the range to 345 miles due to improved efficiency and reduced weight.

However, rumors have surfaced that the base R2 model, initially priced at $45,000, may be delayed until late 2027. This entry-level option is expected to offer a smaller battery pack and a range of approximately 265 miles, positioning it as Rivian’s most affordable electric vehicle.

Speculation about the R2’s pricing was fueled by Rivian’s recent removal of the $45,000 starting price from its product page. The company is gearing up to unveil the R2 on June 6, generating high expectations for its performance and features.
