Rumor Mill: OnePlus 16 to Feature Groundbreaking 240Hz Display

Early specifications for the OnePlus 16 have surfaced well before its expected late 2026 release, particularly highlighting the potential of its display.

While reports suggest that the future of the OnePlus brand may be uncertain, details about the company’s upcoming flagship smartphone are still emerging.

Despite the OnePlus 15 being relatively new to the market, a report from OnePlus Club, an unofficial OnePlus news source, offers insights into the next iteration of the device.

OnePlus 16 display

Reportedly, the OnePlus 16 will debut with a BOE X5 1.5K OLED display boasting an impressive 240Hz refresh rate.

Compared to the OnePlus 15’s 165Hz display, this advancement is remarkable. Most contemporary smartphones settle for 120Hz refresh rates, indicating that the OnePlus 16 aims to double the smoothness offered by the iPhone 17 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Even top-tier gaming phones have not achieved such high refresh rates. For instance, the Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro from late 2024 featured a 185Hz display, setting a benchmark that has yet to be surpassed.

OnePlus 16 performance and battery

The speculated specifications of the OnePlus 16 extend beyond its display.

Expected to include a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chip, the device is likely to see a generational performance boost. This will be complemented by faster LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 4.1 storage.

Of particular interest is the rumor regarding the OnePlus 16’s battery capacity, with a reported 9,000mAh cell, marking a 23% increase if accurate.

The device may also support 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

OnePlus 16 camera and other specs

If there was one area of critique for the OnePlus 15, it was its camera system. While not subpar, it did represent a step down from the OnePlus 13 in certain aspects.
