AMD CEO hints at potential 2027 launch for next-gen Xbox console

In a recent earnings call, AMD CEO Lisa Su hinted at the possibility of Microsoft launching its next-generation Xbox console in 2027. The console, which will feature custom AMD chips, is currently in development, with AMD making progress on the semi-custom SoC that will power the device. While Su’s comments do not confirm a specific launch date for the new Xbox, they indicate that AMD is prepared to support a 2027 release if Microsoft is ready.

Microsoft and AMD’s collaboration on next-gen Xbox

Last year, Microsoft and AMD entered into a strategic partnership to co-engineer silicon for a range of devices, including the next-generation Xbox consoles. This collaboration extends to the development of Xbox Cloud Gaming servers as well. The partnership aims to deliver a premium gaming experience across both console and PC platforms, with the upcoming Xbox Ally devices laying the groundwork for this hybrid approach.

Microsoft’s vision for the next-gen Xbox

Microsoft has been teasing that the next-generation Xbox will offer a hybrid console and PC experience, catering to both casual and hardcore gamers. Xbox president Sarah Bond has described the upcoming console as a “premium, high-end curated experience.” While initial leaks suggested a potential 2028 release date, Microsoft has not officially confirmed a launch timeline for the new Xbox. The leaked documents hinted at the use of custom AMD CPU and GPU components in the next-gen console.
