Samsung ‘Wide Fold’ rumored to rival Apple’s foldable next year

Apple and Samsung Set to Release Foldable Phones in 2026

Exciting news for tech enthusiasts as both Apple and Samsung are gearing up to launch their highly anticipated foldable phones in Fall 2026. Apple’s foldable iPhone, long-rumored to be in the works, is finally set to hit the market next year. However, it seems that Samsung is not far behind, with reports from Korea’s ET News suggesting that Samsung’s upcoming “Wide Fold” will also make its debut in 2026, giving Apple some tough competition.

According to the reports, Samsung’s Wide Fold is expected to feature an OLED display that measures 5.4 inches in its folded position and expands to 7.6 inches when unfolded. The device will have a 4:3 aspect ratio, similar to Apple’s first foldable phone. An unnamed industry source cited by ET News described the Wide Fold as a “passport” type device with a screen ratio of 4:3 when unfolded.

On the other hand, The Information recently reported details about Apple’s foldable phone, revealing that it will come with a 5.3-inch display that increases to 7.7 inches when opened. The aspect ratio of the device is said to be similar to that of Apple’s largest iPads in landscape mode, making it wider than tall when unfolded. This aligns with previous rumors suggesting that Apple’s foldable iPhone will have a wide aspect ratio in portrait mode.

The 4:3 aspect ratio of both Samsung and Apple’s upcoming foldable phones is ideal for activities such as reading ebooks, viewing photographs, and engaging in creative tasks like design and image editing. However, it may result in black bars appearing on traditional landscape and portrait videos, as seen on Samsung’s Z Fold 7.
