The Future of Samsung Galaxy Watches: Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite Chip

Exciting news for tech enthusiasts as Samsung is set to make a significant shift in its upcoming Galaxy Watch models. The company will be moving away from its proprietary silicon and instead opting for Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon Wear Elite chip.

Recently unveiled at MWC 2026 in Barcelona, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite chip promises a remarkable performance boost for smartwatches and other wearables. The decision to switch to this off-the-shelf chip marks a strategic move by Samsung to enhance the capabilities of its next-generation wearables.

During Qualcomm’s event, Samsung executive InKang Song made a notable announcement regarding the collaboration. As the Executive Vice President and Head of the Technology Strategy Team at MX Business, Song revealed that Samsung’s future wearables would be powered by Qualcomm’s innovative chip.

While the specific model of the upcoming Samsung smartwatch utilizing the Snapdragon Wear Elite chip remains undisclosed, the potential for improved performance and advanced features is highly anticipated. The shift to Qualcomm’s chip is expected to elevate the functionality of Samsung’s wearables, positioning them as more sophisticated wellness companions with enhanced AI capabilities.

One of the key advantages of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite chip is its utilization of the 3nm production process, aligning with Samsung’s Exynos W1000 in terms of efficiency. The chip features a single performance core and four efficiency cores, leading to a substantial 5x performance improvement and a 7x faster GPU compared to its predecessor.

Furthermore, the Snapdragon Wear Elite chip incorporates the Hexagon Neural Processing Unit (NPU), enabling on-device AI functionalities for real-time experiences. This includes context-aware recommendations, natural voice interactions, and life logging, offering a more personalized and interactive user experience.

Given Samsung’s recent emphasis on AI advancements over hardware innovations, the transition to a more AI-ready wearable chip aligns with the company’s strategic direction. The integration of the Snapdragon Wear Elite chip is poised to enhance the overall AI capabilities of Samsung’s smartwatches, ensuring a seamless and intelligent user experience.

Anticipated to debut in the market within the next few months, the first wave of wearables powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite chip may include the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch models. With the success of the Galaxy Watch 8 series and Ultra (2025 model) launched in July 2025, the introduction of the Galaxy Watch 9 and Ultra 2 with the new chip signals a promising future for Samsung’s wearable technology.
