Save Your Favorite Places with Google Maps for iPhone
Google Maps has recently introduced a new feature that allows users to scan screenshots on their iPhone and automatically save any locations found within them.
This new capability, powered by Gemini, aims to simplify the process of saving locations that users come across on the web or social media. Instead of manually saving the information and then searching for the location on Maps, the app will now automatically detect and save those places to a list.
To access this feature, ensure that you are using the latest version of Google Maps and navigate to the “You” tab. You will find a new private list labeled “Screenshots,” along with a demo tutorial.

Google Maps will now automatically detect location information, such as names and addresses, in your screenshots and display the Maps listing. A “Review” interface will allow you to save or discard the identified places, which will then be added to the Screenshots list for easy access.
If you grant access to all photos, the auto-scan feature will continuously search for new screenshots with locations and present them in a carousel for your review. Alternatively, you can manually import images for review from your gallery. The option to toggle the auto-scan feature on or off is prominently displayed below the screenshots carousel.
This functionality is currently available on Google Maps for iOS (US English) and will be introduced to Android devices in the future.
