Seamless Integration: Windows 11’s Progress in Resuming Android Apps on PC
Windows 11 to Enhance Ability to Resume Android Apps on PC
Microsoft is gearing up to improve the functionality of Windows 11 by enabling users to seamlessly resume their Android apps on their PC. Last year, the tech giant introduced cross-device resume capabilities, allowing Windows 11 users to pick up where they left off on OneDrive sessions from their Android devices. Now, Microsoft is taking this feature a step further by extending it to include Spotify playback, browsing sessions, and more.
Expanded Cross-Device Resume Support in Latest Windows 11 Update
The enhanced cross-device resume support, which has been undergoing testing since August, is now part of the most recent Release Preview update for Windows 11 that commenced rollout yesterday. This update enables users to resume Spotify playback on their PC from their phone, as well as continue their work in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Additionally, users can seamlessly transition their Edge browsing sessions from their phone to their PC.
Similar to macOS Handoff Feature
This new feature bears resemblance to Apple’s Handoff feature on macOS, allowing users to resume tasks across various Apple devices such as Mac, iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. Microsoft initially unveiled its cross-device resume support for Windows 11 at the Build developer conference last year. Notably, Windows 10 also had its own app handoff feature, known as Project Rome, which did not gain widespread adoption among developers.
Impending Arrival of Enhanced Cross-Device Feature
With the addition of the improved cross-device feature to the Release Preview testing phase, its official release is imminent. The update also includes “enhanced” MIDI 2.0 support on Windows 11, improvements to voice typing, and fingerprint sensor support for Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security (ESS). For owners of Copilot Plus PCs, this update will also introduce support for German, Portuguese, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Hindi, Italian, and Chinese (Simplified) languages in the new Settings Agent.
