The Pixel Watch now lets you tap to pay without opening the Wallet app

Exciting Updates Coming to the Pixel Watch

Google is set to release a major update for the Pixel Watch, introducing a convenient new feature that allows users to make payments with a simple tap on their watch. This feature, known as “express pay,” will be available on the Pixel Watch 2 and later models.

Similar to Apple Watch’s “express mode,” the Pixel Watch’s express pay feature enables users to make payments without unlocking their device. However, users will need to opt in to use this feature, and the watch must be unlocked to complete a transaction.

Previously, Pixel Watch users had to double-tap the device’s crown to access the Wallet app for payments. Google is also enhancing the Pixel Watch’s functionality by allowing users to tap for transportation payments without opening the Wallet app.

In addition to the express pay feature, other useful updates are coming to the Pixel Watch 2 and later models. These updates include automatic phone locking when out of range and notifications to alert users when they leave their phone behind, both of which are compatible with Pixel 8 and newer devices.

Google is also streamlining identity checks for connected watches and phones, allowing users to perform sensitive actions more quickly by adding a PIN. This feature is exclusive to the Pixel Watch 3, Pixel Watch 4, Pixel 8 Pro, and newer models.

The latest March update from Google introduces the Find Hub to the original Pixel Watch and other Wear OS devices, adds new one-handed gestures to the Pixel Watch 3, and expands the Satellite SOS feature on the Pixel Watch 4 to additional locations, including Europe, Canada, Hawaii, and Alaska.
