Securing Sovereignty: How Soverli Raised €2.2 Million to Protect Smartphone Users
Zurich-Based Cybersecurity Startup Soverli Raises €2.2 Million in Pre-Seed Funding
Soverli, a cybersecurity company based in Zurich, has successfully raised €2.2 million ($2.6 million) in pre-Seed funding. The company aims to introduce a sovereign smartphone architecture that can work alongside Android and iOS operating systems.
The funding round was led by Founderful, with support from the ETH Zurich Foundation and Venture Kick. Additionally, prominent figures from the cybersecurity industry also participated in the investment. Earlier in September, Soverli secured €161k from Venture Kick.
Co-founder and CEO of Soverli, Ivan Puddu, emphasized the importance of availability in today’s digital landscape. He highlighted the company’s innovative approach of building a fully-auditable smartphone sovereign layer that remains operational even in the event of Android compromise.
Soverli’s unique platform allows multiple fully isolated phones to run on a single device, enabling various operating systems to operate independently. This technology effectively transforms every commercial phone into sovereign infrastructure.
The company’s value proposition lies in providing sovereign-grade security without compromising usability. Soverli’s methodology ensures that users can enjoy the full Android experience while also having the option to switch to the sovereign OS seamlessly.
One of the key applications of Soverli’s technology is in mission-critical communication, particularly in the public sector. The company is currently conducting pilots with organizations responsible for emergency response and critical infrastructure.
With this recent funding, Soverli plans to expand its engineering team, increase compatibility with more smartphone models, enhance integrations with mobile device management systems, and strengthen partnerships with OEMs.
The company’s innovative approach to mobile security has garnered interest not only from the public sector but also from journalists, human rights workers, and enterprises looking to secure their bring-your-own-device programs.
Soverli’s ability to run secure messaging apps in an isolated environment has the potential to address the growing concerns around digital infrastructure security in an era of heightened geopolitical uncertainty and AI-driven risks.
