The Latest News on Ubisoft’s Cancelled Assassin’s Creed Game

Ubisoft has been making headlines recently with a series of game cancellations and layoffs, causing concern among fans and employees alike. The latest development comes in the form of the cancellation of an online Assassin’s Creed game, known as AC League.

French outlet Origami reported on the cancellation, stating that sources confirmed the project was being developed by Ubisoft Annecy. Originally planned as DLC for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the game would have featured four assassins working together on various missions, concluding the story of the season pass.

While the concept was intriguing, directors at Ubisoft Annecy had reservations about attaching it to Shadows, fearing it would delay development. As a result, the project was reimagined as a standalone game using elements of Shadows’ map. An invite-only alpha was even planned for May of this year, but the project was unexpectedly shelved last week.

Despite the setback, some Annecy team members are now focusing on leveraging the technical advancements made during development to enhance multiplayer modes in future games. However, others are left uncertain about their future projects in light of Ubisoft’s recent actions.

As the gaming community reacts to these changes, it’s important to show solidarity with those affected by the cancellations and layoffs. The uncertainty surrounding Ubisoft’s decisions serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by developers in the industry.
